Rouge sim opening: Press Conference

My Second Life, Scripting / Building, Code Red, My Friends, Events, Fashion, Art, Boudoir Rouge, Content Creation, Interviews, Rouge — CodeBastard Redgrave on June 29, 2008 at 10:34 am

CodeBastard “Codie” Redgrave, photography artist and content designer, has the immense pride and pleasure to announce that her brand new sim, Rouge, will open it’s doors to the public with a smashing huge party happening Saturday the 5th of July, starting at 2PM SLT. It will end up several hours later to accommodate friends from both the American and European timezones.

A press conference will be held Friday the 4th at 6PM SLT for all bloggers and journalists interested to know more about Rouge and the opening event. I will also offer a guided tour preview of the sim after the press conference. Those interested can ask for a press pass directly to CodeBastard Redgrave.

The party will include an impressive lineup of DJs to entertain you, including Nexeus Fatale and Amanda Shinji, among others awaiting confirmation. There will be gifts distributed all night. Boudoir Rouge artwork will be on display for you to enjoy, or to acquire those exclusive pieces to support the sim activities. Many surprises awaits on this unique and magical night to come. The dress code is anything red, or lingerie, or naked (you read well).

The Rouge sim is a unique and amazing piece of work created by building and design luminary Eshi Otawara. The whole sim is a concept never done before in SecondLife both in the aestethical and spatial organization sense. It’s purpose is to host the new version of the legendary Code Red Lounge, the new Rouge gallery walk and a new store, just called Rouge, that will sustain financially the sim’s cultural and artistic activities. The Rouge store will include products from multiple content designers, of course most of it themed with the red color.

The new sim will be hosting various events, from art events to fashion shows, and will be available for rent to any organization needing it for holding special events. It is also an awesome leisure resort where Secondlifers can come anytime they want for a good time in good company, in a very spectacular setting. It is a VIP club but will be open to the public as soon as the sim is officially launched.

Invited journalists and bloggers:

  • Tateru Nino (Massively)

Yes I know you ♥♥♥ the title, so sorry for baiting you with an ambiguous sex joke.

You know, sometimes I almost believe karma exist. For some good time now I plan to buy my own sim to make a new headquarter for my activities. Well, sparing the details, my ex-GF Fallon popped into my IM with the big question: “Will you take my sim?”. Stunned I was especially after several months of no-talky. She made me an offer I just could not refuse, considering I was already intending to buy a sim at regular price. Basically I had to pay the transfer fees of 100$ and she gave me the sim, which has been transferred to me a week ago. So I am now the mommy of a less than a year old full Class 5 baby.

This sim will be the new headquarters for all my operations, hosting events and parties for the Code Red crew, the OPC store, selected designers, and the new Code Red gallery, where I will move the exclusive Boudoir Rouge collection for sale. The sim will also host my studios where I will continue my photography work. The old Code Red land in Strata is going to be resold and the old Code Red build demolished after more than 1 year of loyal services, hosting some of the most incredible parties to have hit the grid.

Eshi and Codie

Some of you may have heard it’s no one than building designer luminary Eshi Otawara that is in charge of terraforming and building the whole sim. This is absolutely true, Eshi asked me if she could do it, so I gave her the list of my needs, and the keys to be Estate Manager. I can assure you I have absolutely no regret of doing so, because the results are already stunningly fantastic.

Through a handful of friends have already seen the incomplete build, Eshi is heading toward completion in the next days, we asked our visitors to refrain from spoiling the surprise and not publish pictures of the sim until we do the official launch. The sim is currently locked to Code Red members. But those who have had the chance to see it are pretty much unanimous: this sim is probably one of the most unique and amazing you may have never seen in SL.

Even if not completed, Eshi surpassed herself in skills and imagination and created one of the most completely surreal and innovative environments you could ever imagine.

The launch will happen real soon, exact date remains to be confirmed. A communique is being prepared and will be sent, along with a VIP press pass, to a select list of media representatives and bloggers. The event may be VIP (group members only) so make sure to request me an add to the group if you don’t want to miss probably what will be the most epic bash of Code Red’s history.

Code Red will finally emerge as what I always wanted it to be, a place where it is fantastic to live and hang out, free of the mainland ugliness and parcel size limitations, forcing us to pile up. I wanted a place where art can not only exist, but live and evolve. In the next days Code Red will morph into a beautiful red butterfly, and you my friends will be the witnesses.

Codie selected to help with SL5B organizing

My Second Life, Scripting / Building, Flickr, My Friends, Events, Funny, Art — CodeBastard Redgrave on March 13, 2008 at 5:21 am

What an awesome time I had at SL4B last year. It’s where I met some awesome people like Stephen Venkman and his lovely wife Kimberly Mirabeau, among a ton of other interesting characters. It’s where I created my Art Monolith, and this was one of the most memorable time I ever had in SL.

Now, lovely great lady of arts Shoshana Epsilon, which is also the Art Director for SL5B, asked me if I could help organizing and selecting artists for this year’s SecondLife Birthday, and of course I gladly accepted.

Cuddlefish Junction “Bubble Ride Party” on 15.03.2008

My Second Life, Scripting / Building, My Friends, Events, Funny, Art, Content Creation, Reviews, Product — CodeBastard Redgrave on March 11, 2008 at 1:15 pm

How cute is that. How never dreamed of riding a bubble? Well this is the perfect occasion as Jacek Antonelli AKA Cuddlefish launches her new product, the Bubble Ride, a clear bubble vehicle launcher. You herd right! One touch on the bubble launcher and it pops you a new bubble, you click on the bubble and you ride it! You pretty much go with the wind but the bubble has controls that allows you to change direction and go upwards/downwards. Of course it doesn’t turn on a dime but hey! It’s awesome and it’s beautiful and not possible in real life. And it’s awesome fun.

Click here for more information on the event, straight from Cuddlefish Junction webpage.

Furthermore, as of sheer vanity, just check who’s on this Cuddlefish Junction poster, floating delightfully. I is purring in delight. ^^

WWW in SecondLife: About time

My Second Life, Scripting / Building, Linden Labs, Content Creation, Software — CodeBastard Redgrave on March 7, 2008 at 7:02 am

One of the greatest restrictions for content creation and cross interoperability within the SecondLife client has been the total inability to display HTML within the SecondLife viewer. Well it seems the Lindens have been working hard at it, because I think their last Release Candidate notice does not sound like an April Fool’s (we are far too early for that anyways).

Read the release note:

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/03/06/parcel-media-changes-in-1191-release-candidate/

Okay it is not HTML on a prim yet, but sounds promising. It cannot yet display Flash content because it lacks support for Firefox extensions, which it is based on, but I guess it’s better than nada. Hopefully we should see more development in that sense soon.

Content theft: SculptyPaint retires its free software temporarily

My Second Life, Scripting / Building, Art, Linden Labs, Causes, Content Creation — CodeBastard Redgrave on March 7, 2008 at 5:35 am

Well, way to go. I’m a long time user of SculptyPaint, one of the nicest free software around to make sculpties in a quick and dirty way. Of course as most free software developers, Cel Edman needs to sell other products, mainly sculpty packs. Well sounds like he’s getting ripped off pretty hard and he cites a few reasons on the SculptyPaint page showing his outrage. Indeed, if all of that is true, it is outrageous. Especially the bits about physical threats, and alledgely getting ripped by a big mentoring group. Of course, I have no proof of that happening, yet, but the notice on the Mental Mentor page says a lot. (removed)
I didn’t ask for permissions, lacking contact info, but here is the integral message on SculptyPaint webpage.
(— CUT HERE —)

I decided to take down Sculptypaint site for the next few days. Why? Well there are a number of reasons. I ♥♥♥ to create, and write creation tools, that I offer free to download as well. ♥♥♥ the positive response of the majority of people, but the same time. - People threatning me in real life, that I filed a DMCA complain against. - I got serious hate mail, about my software thats free to download for everyone. - The way Linden act on DMCA and copyright infrigment.
Like one person modified my artwork, removed my name and copyright, and have been selling my items for 6 months now.. Using an army of bots to get #1 in the search. I file a DMCA, wait 2 months, Linden removes the vendor boxes. And the next week the person is selling the same stuff again. I filed already 3 times in a row a DMCA takedown to this person, and still this person with ‘Payment info on file’ is running around in SL. Also selling other artist work.
Another person has a huge record on selling stolen goods in SL, created by me and other artist. Selling stolen items for the last 12 months now, all the DMCA takedowns he received he calls just a joke. and continues this ‘bussiness’. The person got ‘payment info on file’ and his own sim.

- Yesterday I learned about the ‘mental mentors‘ group in Second Life. This group is for mentors in Second Life, who’s goal is to help Newbie`s, educate teach, lead, guide and so on. Great..
This group is rather big, about 800+ people/mentors.
I found out several of my sculptpacks I sell are offered as freebee`s by the leader(s) of this group. For several months now.
A ‘mentor starter pack’ is given out to all mentors, to help the helpless newbees in SL.
I released my latest SFT-pack around 14 februari 2008. Only a few days later, this pack I created was repackaged, my copyright notices and TOS removed, (all the sculpties clearly state not for individual resell/repackage). The whole pack was distributed as a freebee pack too about 800+ mentors in SL, to use and to give away ‘to help the newbees’.
If this group was called ‘robbers from SL’ I would not care a second, but from a mentor group.. Who`s goal to educate, teach, help and lead in SL?! unbelievable.

You must know, I only can continue developing Sculptypaint and other free creation tools by selling my work in SL.
No income - no time - no coding - no tools - simple as that.
I’m sick and tired about all this crap that sucks all the creative energy out of me, standing alone in the cold here for such a long time. So decided to put a statement here for the next few days. Hope you understand.

Have a nice day!

Elout de Kok - march 6, 2008
SL: Cel Edman

The morality? Well respect the content creators TOS, or wave them goodbye. Freebies are great, but mentoring groups must preach by the example. Violating someone’s right to distribute his content like he wants to can bite back on your ass. Now, nobody can download SculptyPaint and use this awesome tool, which deprives every content creators on the grid from using it. Which is quite the opposite of what a mentoring group is supposed to do.

I just hope all of this is a misunderstanding. Time for more dialog and diplomacy, and maybe time for the Lindens to get a rapid response team for dealing with DMCA since this kind of problem will get reported more and more often.

EDIT: Ordinal Malaprop also blogs it.

Massively talks about it too.

ADDENDUM:

A few feedbacks are suggesting, like I thought it could be, a big ass misunderstanding. Let’s hope the concerned parties clears it out in a civil manner. While then, nothing keeps us to talk about it and maybe tell the Lindens we need better DMCA provisions.

Boudoir Rouge: The Poseset

My Second Life, Scripting / Building, Dramavatar, Flickr, Art, OPC, Boudoir Rouge, Content Creation, Product — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 26, 2008 at 2:17 pm

Boudoir Rouge: The Poseset

I am really proud to introduce you a new 40 poseset that was custom designed for the Boudoir Rouge photo series.

They have been created by Alexx Markova on special order. 20 poses were already made by Alexx but already used for Boudoir Rouge, and 20 more poses, the Lingerie and Pin-up series, has been ordered and made custom especially for the picture series.

One important thing about those poses is they have been created and ajusted to fit my own avatar shape which is more curvy than the average woman shapes, making them fit for the round women as well as thinner ones.

I throughly reviewed, tested and made correction requests to avoid any limb or finger collision, cause as little articulation deformation as possible, and minimize clothing glitches as much as possible. With such tough revision cycle, I wanted to insure that I would have poses which requires less postprocessing.

This poseset is the product of a close collaboration with Alexx Markova and myself for all aspects of the process. Alexx did the all the execution and I helped him review and correct the poses for better photography usage. Of course I’m proud of having the opportunity to bring you this very special poseset.

I really hope you will enjoy those poses as much as I enjoyed working with them.

Very yours,

Codie <3

This set contains the following series of poses:

Lay me: Charm, Frivolous, Intimate, Princess, Prowling, Red Hawt, Sultry, Take me, Temptation, Touch me

Official: Codie Avastar of the Year 2007 by public vote

SL-AvastarAwards0006

I am so honored that you guys chose me as the Avastar of the Year 2007. I was already honored of sitting in that list with some of the most extraordinary newcomers, including people I admire greatly including RightAsRain Rimbeault, Ana Lutetia and Nicholaz Beresford among others. I’m still a bit under the shock that you guys chose me.

Now I’m getting more feedbacks about how that could happen because honestly I couldn’t believe it. Many people sent me emails and letters to tell me they encouraged my candidacy for that title through their mailing-lists, forums, groups, blogs, even Flickr threads. You people just proven me you can be sweet to the core. That just flatters me to an unimaginable level that I could influence your Second Life, be it just a tiny little bit. For me it’s a world of difference. It means that sometime, somewhere, I have tried my best to be good to people around, that all my efforts to contribute to the community in a positive way have been acknowledge. And acknowledged by you people.

I want to thank each and everyone of you. If I could do it personally, I would. I want to thanks the Avastar for nominating me with all those marvelous people. I want to thanks everyone that voted on that poll and that supported me through that stressful but enlightening process. I want to thank all the candidates for being such good sports. I want to congratulate Ana Lutetia as a Second winner and RightAsRain Rimbeault as the Third winner.

This has been my honor and pleasure to serving this amazing community in my first year. I will try to make my second year even better. I ♥♥♥ you all to bits.

Sincerely,

Codie
