Recipe: CodiePasta

Funny, Tips & Tricks, Recipe — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 28, 2008 at 7:05 am

Yeah I hope you appreciate the geek joke. So here is one of my favorite recipe. I know avatars don’t eat, but I have to feed that meatbag or she will die. So before she starves to death, here’s how to make CodiePasta, for approx 4 people. Be warned, it is deeleeshous but it’s rich!

Ingredients:

  • 900 grams of pasta (spaghettis, linguinis, whatever) cooked and drained
  • 1 package of pre-made basil pesto (about 200g)
  • 1/4 cup (about 60ml) of pure virgin olive oil
  • 200g of sliced ham or 100g of proscuitto
  • 1 cup (250ml) of salted cashews
  • Optional: parmigiano regiano to taste

That’s it for the ingredients!

Preparation:

  • Cook the pastas, drain them and put a little olive oil and mix, to prevent them from sticking together
  • In a large pan, grease it with a little bit of olive oil, and grill the cashews just 2-3 minutes constantly shaking the pan to prevent the cashews from burning
  • Add minced ham or proscuitto. Cut it in tiny bits and throw that in the pan.
  • Let cook for 1 minute, shaking constantly
  • Add the pesto and olive oil (and grated parmigiano cheese to taste)
  • Mix and cover, and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes
  • Voila!

You could mix the garnishing with the pasta and heat it together, or just add a large spoonful of the mix on a plate of pasta.

Hope you will enjoy!

Boudoir Rouge: The Poseset

Boudoir Rouge: The Poseset

I am really proud to introduce you a new 40 poseset that was custom designed for the Boudoir Rouge photo series.

They have been created by Alexx Markova on special order. 20 poses were already made by Alexx but already used for Boudoir Rouge, and 20 more poses, the Lingerie and Pin-up series, has been ordered and made custom especially for the picture series.

One important thing about those poses is they have been created and ajusted to fit my own avatar shape which is more curvy than the average woman shapes, making them fit for the round women as well as thinner ones.

I throughly reviewed, tested and made correction requests to avoid any limb or finger collision, cause as little articulation deformation as possible, and minimize clothing glitches as much as possible. With such tough revision cycle, I wanted to insure that I would have poses which requires less postprocessing.

This poseset is the product of a close collaboration with Alexx Markova and myself for all aspects of the process. Alexx did the all the execution and I helped him review and correct the poses for better photography usage. Of course I’m proud of having the opportunity to bring you this very special poseset.

I really hope you will enjoy those poses as much as I enjoyed working with them.

Very yours,

Codie <3

Boudoir Rouge: New project page includes the Boudoir Rouge hitlist

Flickr, This Website, Art, Boudoir Rouge — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 24, 2008 at 7:00 pm

I previously posted the Boudoir Rouge Hitlist on a standard post, making it harder to find, so i just created the Boudoir Rouge page, containing technical information about the Boudoir Rouge art project, along with the infamous Boudoir Rouge Hitlist. I will also strike the hitlist off previous post and mark as outdated with a redirect to the new page. The official Boudoir Rouge Hitlist is up to date only on the new official project page.

Firefox extension PicLens makes Flickr feel good

Flickr, Tips & Tricks, Reviews, Software — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 24, 2008 at 6:46 pm

Someone on Twitter suggested the PicLens Firefox extension. I just had to share this one because I think it’s an awesome gadget.

PicLens is an ordinary Firefox extension that allows immersive browsing of pictures posted on Flickr and of some other image search and hosting services.

Quoted from the PicLens website:

“PicLens instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen, 3D experience for viewing images on the web. Photos will come to life via a cinematic presentation that goes well beyond the confines of the traditional browser window. With PicLens, browsing and viewing images on the web will never be the same again.”

Indeed. Browsing images now feels natural, and it goes much faster than standard viewing when browsing batches of images. I’m quite addicted to it so you may just want to try it, just in case you like it too.

  • Be warned, I tested this on a recent and powerful machine, not on older hardware.
  • It’s avaliable for Explorer and even a reduced functionnality Safari version
  • You can search for images directly
  • “Fly through 1000s of images in a split second”

PhotoStage 1.1.0 Product Review - Just buy it

My Second Life, Photoshoots, My Friends, Events, Art, Content Creation, Reviews — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 22, 2008 at 12:31 am

I’m a photographer. And I’m a scripter. It’s pretty much all I do in SL when I’m not making sweet ♥♥♥ to hordes of cute girls. Joke apart, there’s one thing I don’t want to interfere with my artistic creativity, and it’s a freaking photo rig.

For a year now, I tried about every system I could get my hand on. Basically, be it photosphere, or photobooth, they all pretty do the same lame thing. If I need a backdrop, I will edit a damn prim and stick a texture on it. I know I’m dumb sometimes, but I can do that. And I see no point in anyone of you buying a photography system to do that. It’s very lame, and it’s a loss of money and time, because it is actually quicker to do it by editing. They are just very expensive pose stands. Really, they are. So I just stopped caring.

For a good while now, all my pictures are taken with my sticks and stones rig. Pretty much a black background, a prim for eye gazing, and a bunch of light prims that I rez and manipulate by editing them directly. To date, I never found any system that was of any use in making my life more easy for anything.

Well recently I met Poid Malkovich (a sweetheart) that introduced me to Anna Tretiak (another sweetheart). Anna, along with her partner Serenity Mercier, are Ananke Media Systems, maker of the spiffy new PhotoStage system. Anna gave me a PhotoStage system for testing, which I gladly did.

Here is the first picture I shot with PhotoStage:

Codie at the Boudoir - Testing PhotoStage 1.1.0

Apart a few minor annoyances, PhotoStage is extremely powerful. It’s strongest point, IMOHO, is the ability to rez and manipulate gaze points, lights, and also special effect generators, straight into the scene, and manipulate them with ease through a HUD. It also allows you to record the actual positions of things to be recalled later on demand. The HUD is incredibly well done and offers very advanced options and fine tuning for about everything.

The baddest point I can think of is that once hidden, the posestand cannot be unhidden by voice commands. Anna agreed and told me she was implementing a voice command system to go with the HUD. Which should fix the problem.

I must admit this is the first time I actually use a photography system that does NOT imply more manipulation than what I usually do with the edit tools. This was a very strong point for me, as the learning curve was quickly absorbed. It’s not perfect yet but I would say it has more good features than bad points, and actually makes me want to use it.

I won’t comment furthermore, I will just let you enjoy this little video that should give you a damn good idea of how it looks and feel.

Kudos, Anna and Serenity, you girls rawk! People, I encourage you to go and grab a PhotoStage now, it’s the best studio system I had a chance to try until now.

Codie Logo Contest: The Winners

My Second Life, Photoshoots, Code Red, Dramavatar, Flickr, My Friends, Funny, Art, MachinimaCam, Contest — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 15, 2008 at 10:06 am

First, a huge gigantic round of thanks to all of those who submitted a logo for that funny little contest. All the entries were very good, and all of them mean a lot to me, just that you took some of your precious time to make something for me. I am touched an honored, and found out a lovely trait about me in every and each logo designed by you guys. Much, much ♥♥♥ to you all, you so totally made my day/week, and what the hell, you guys made my whole year.

Here are the contenders:

Codie logo submissions

So, here’s the winners, in invert order.

*DRUMROLLS!*

3RD WINNER: STEPHEN VENKMAN

Winner 3

The only thing not good about this logo is that its not a monogram. Apart that, well it is quite me! Steph took a very nice capture of me to represent on this logo, a closed eye shot, my favourite kind. Stephen wins a complete set of Dramavatar stuff, including 78 pairs of eyes and shirts.

2ND WINNER: OPENSOURCE OBSCURE

Winner 2

This is a very nice monogram. Very nice idea too. Many people told me it was their favourite. With maybe slight modifications, this could become my secondary logo, like a watermark or a seal. Very good work, Opensource. Opensource wins a MachinimaCam, and all Dramavatar Stuff.

1ST WINNER: RYKER BECK

Winner 1

Okay before you go and think I favourited Ryker because she’s a sweetheart, think again. This logo has all characteristics I was looking at. It’s red, hawt, and me. I think I’m going to ask for a few little modifications, but basically, it’s perfect. Elegant, simple, classy, clever, a little naughty. Rings any bell? I can see that to sign my work, I can see that like a crown on my website, my first reaction was: wow! fucking awesome! Congrats Ryker, you totally deserve that win. Ryker will get $L4000, MachinimaCam, and all Dramavatar stuff.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

As I said, and I will repeat, ALL works submitted were awesome and all of them have something touching and significant. All entries were so cool that I decided that everyone will get a little gift from me, as a thank you. I ♥♥♥ you all, thank you very much for participating.

Codie

Contest: Design a personal logo for Codie and win 4000L

My Second Life, Photoshoots, Dramavatar, Flickr, This Website, My Friends, Funny, Art, OPC, MachinimaCam, Contest — CodeBastard Redgrave on February 7, 2008 at 5:57 am

Today Shockwave Plasma asked me if I had a personal logo, like the one that belongs to Tateru Nino. Tho I surely don’t have the cult following Tateru has, Shockwave surely thinks I’m hawt shit for asking me such a thing. Apart my standard signature, I don’t have a distinctive mark that can represent me.

I surely don’t have the time right now to design a logo for my personal use. Tho, it would be surely lovely to have something unique I could appose to my work or use around for fun, like a graffiti tag. So I had this idea that it could be a really fun to do a little contest, and ask for you lovely people to design a logo for myself.

The prizes:

  • 1st prize: L$4000 cash, 1 MachinimaCam HUD, 1 Sakura Blossom Emitter, all Dramavatar eyes (78 pairs) and shirts (60 shirts), and a big valentine smooch from Codie
  • 2nd prize: 1 MachinimaCam HUD, 1 Sakura Blossom Emitter, all Dramavatar eyes (78 pairs) and shirts (60 shirts)
  • 3rd prize: all Dramavatar eyes (78 pairs) and shirts (60 shirts)

The rules:

  • All entries to the contest must be posted as a link in the comments of this blog entry. No exception made.
  • The logo must be a minimum of 1600×1200, for better scaling
  • You can submit more than one work
  • The 1st winner must provide the Photoshop and/or Illustrator files used for the logo.
  • The 1st winner must concedes the full rights to his creation to me (CodeBastard Redgrave) since it is to be used as my personal logo. You retain the right to present your work as a porfolio item of course. I retain the right to modify it at my will.
  • I do not engage in using the logo if you win. EDIT: To precise my intent, it’s just in case I feel no logo represents me. Very unlikely to happen but I’m of a careful nature.
  • All works must be submitted before Feb 14th 2008 @ 12:00 AM Linden time
  • Codie is the sole and only judge, will choose the 3 winners and will give out the prizes personally

Guidelines:

  • Red is a must
  • Monographic logos are better since they can be used in a single color or incorporated in other designs, but not mandatory
  • The logo should be of a square ratio
  • Bonus points if the logo looks good when embossed
  • The logo can contain writing but should be as universal as possible
  • If you are to use any of my previous work, please ask permission. Of course if you need inspiration, feel free to scour my flickr.

Have fun! I know I will checking out the entries. If nobody participates I will take that L$4000 and go blow it on something just to cure my sadness.
