Boudoir Rouge: The Hit List

My Second Life, Photoshoots, Flickr, My Friends, Fashion, Art, Boudoir Rouge — CodeBastard Redgrave on January 29, 2008 at 5:44 am

Here in no particular order, is the list of all women I want to include in the Boudoir Rouge series. Some of them already accepted so they are merely listed here as a reminder. I got a lot of requests for shootings so please don’t be offended if I prioritize some of the people in that list, I will eventually come to most cases. I will also include the shoot guidelines and requirements for some of the models to prepare before we eventually meet for the shoot.

No pressure, but everyone I asked to accepted my request immediately. But be sure that it is all done in a very tasteful way and that in no way I will pressure anyone to do whatever they don’t want to do. All those people included on this list are people I have a very high opinion of, and I will do everything in respect and good fun.
Here are the guidelines:

  • anthropomorphic female avatars only
  • classic tasteful pinup / boudoir style shoot
  • to wear: lingerie, stockings, garters, corset, good quality high heels
  • if you do not have good enough clothing, it will be provided to you for free
  • short hair or updo, no hanging prims
  • wear no facelight
  • wear SOMETHING red, anything. could be only the lips or the full clothing, or any accessory, your choice.
  • i am shooting on a black background so please no pitch black clothing
  • you can use props: fans, flowers, cigarette holder

So in no particular order, here is the Boudoir Rouge Hit List. This list is incomplete and will be updated as time goes, so please come back for more updates.

The Boudoir Rouge Hitlist:

IMPORTANT: This version of the hitlist is obsolete and has moved on a dedicated page. Click here to redirect to the new Boudoir Rouge page.

EDIT: Reordered the list by task. Top of the list is in process, accepted means they agreed to model, and DONE means they are finished shooting. This does not mean they are to be out in any order, I will process them in a batch when I have enough material, the usual.

Of course I may add more names, or remove some. This is an informal list and will evolve as time goes by. PLEASE don’t kill me if I massacred your name, just send me a correction note and I will fix it. Sometimes those were hand typed real quick.

Women of SecondLife, this is my salute to you for the inspiration you give so generously to the SL community.
If you are on that list of course, you are more than welcome to IM me inworld to schedule your shoot.

Welcome to the Boudoir Rouge

I started a new photo series lately called Boudoir Rouge, as an ode to the general beauty of all the great ladies of the metaverse, mostly those who influenced my SecondLife. This serie portraits womans I admire greatly because they are all smart and creative, and also lovely. I started with a few portraits, then this serie is quickly evolved in a 26 picture series, made in 22 different photoshoots. And I’m not finished with it, I will soon publish my “hit list”, including all of those I want to include in the series. Since nobody refused yet and even a few directly came to me, I think most of them should be featured in a near future.

I will post more information about the serie as time comes. Stay tuned!

SL-AvastarAwards0006

I am so honored that you guys chose me as the Avastar of the Year 2007. I was already honored of sitting in that list with some of the most extraordinary newcomers, including people I admire greatly including RightAsRain Rimbeault, Ana Lutetia and Nicholaz Beresford among others. I’m still a bit under the shock that you guys chose me.

Now I’m getting more feedbacks about how that could happen because honestly I couldn’t believe it. Many people sent me emails and letters to tell me they encouraged my candidacy for that title through their mailing-lists, forums, groups, blogs, even Flickr threads. You people just proven me you can be sweet to the core. That just flatters me to an unimaginable level that I could influence your Second Life, be it just a tiny little bit. For me it’s a world of difference. It means that sometime, somewhere, I have tried my best to be good to people around, that all my efforts to contribute to the community in a positive way have been acknowledge. And acknowledged by you people.

I want to thank each and everyone of you. If I could do it personally, I would. I want to thanks the Avastar for nominating me with all those marvelous people. I want to thanks everyone that voted on that poll and that supported me through that stressful but enlightening process. I want to thank all the candidates for being such good sports. I want to congratulate Ana Lutetia as a Second winner and RightAsRain Rimbeault as the Third winner.

This has been my honor and pleasure to serving this amazing community in my first year. I will try to make my second year even better. I ♥♥♥ you all to bits.

Sincerely,

Codie

Quick update

My Second Life, Photoshoots, Scripting / Building, Code Red, Flickr, This Website, My Friends, Events, Art, OPC, MachinimaCam — CodeBastard Redgrave on January 15, 2008 at 8:24 am

Lots of things going on so I didn’t take time to blog much lately, sorry for depriving my faithful viewers of my almost daily delirium.

I think I made it with 1st place on that Avastar of the Year poll, tho the votes from the Avastar island aren’t counted so I don’t know who wins yet. This will be presented at the Award Ceremony January 16, 09:00 SLT, at The AvaStar (107, 219, 80). This would fall straight in the middle of my work day so I don’t even think I can attend. Which kinda sucks.

Apart that I’m working on a new photoshoot for a Bubblefish/Atomic Soda ad campain. Pictures looks awesome until now, I’m looking at two other shootings that needs to be done before the set is complete. I’m also working on their new logo which should be done soon.

I’m preparing a new artsy photo set to put exclusively in the new Code Red 3.0 building, which I will inaugurate soon if everything goes well. The new build is all made with 32×32 megaprims and is only using 75 prims, compared to the 400 needed for the previous build. It’s also much well organized and more clean, at least to my own taste. I will also re-manage the actual collection to keep only the best of the best for your viewing pleasure.

I’m of course working my ass off to finish the latest MachinimaCam version, for which I will need beta testers soon. I keep adding new stuff but I want this brew to be completely workable and bug fixed before releasing it. It is promising tho, since it allows amazing expansion compared to the previous version. Be sure I will keep you posted.

That’s it for now, of course, more to come.

The Naughty Eleven

My Second Life, This Website, My Friends — CodeBastard Redgrave on January 7, 2008 at 10:44 am

Okay I owe Ryker one hell of a slap for tagging me with The Naughty Eleven. But you know me, it’s naughty, so I liek it. Let’s do it! ^^ Thing is, I did a few people… *lol* Don’t know if the meme should include people you already did but what the hell, I would do them again ;)

Name the avatar that you would most like to have second life sex with for.

1. . their avatar: Melodious Source. For me it’s a no brainer, she’s a gawdess.

2. . their mind: Jacek Antonelli AKA Cuddlefish. What do you want, geekettes turn me on. ^^

3. . their poetic/mystical/creative spirit: Shoshanna Epsilon. She just enlightens me.

4. . their social success/success in SL: Tiffany Flintoff. That must be one hell of a ride.

5. . their libido: Katarina Malthus. ooooo the naughty kitty ^^

6. . wanting them to go against type for you. That is, if they are normally a top, you would want them to be your bottom, if they are straight and you are same SL gender: Vint Falken. Oh yeah shes my fav non-dyke.

7. . and you would go against type for this: Stephen Venkman. Without hesitation.

8. . and you would most want to do a nothing-but-sex week with, who you are not currently having SL sex with: Ryker Beck LOL dunno but i’m sure that would be damn sweet.

9. . and you want a threesome, which two. Elease Graves and Nyla Rossini. They will kill me but I had to let it out.

10. . “The forbidden,” the one that, you’d like to publicly confess to, but the consequences would be toooooo awful. Examples would be your best friend’s partner, a professional contact, someone you know rl who is here. Someone who you want, but have never been able to confess it too. Don’t post. Just answer with whether they are online right at the moment that you post your answer: Online.

11. . nostalgia reasons: Marquez Tone. I just miss him.

I took the time to answer it. But skrew the tagging for now. I may do that later but don’t count on it. ^^ *muah!*

Photoshop fun: A wink to Vint Falken about Diffuse Glow abuse

My Second Life, Photoshoots, Flickr, Art, Tips & Tricks — CodeBastard Redgrave on January 7, 2008 at 8:15 am

Vint Falken posted one awesome Photoshop tutorial again. I didn’t think of that technique she exhibits so well in that post. It’s things like that makes her my uber heroin.

Her article is a tutorial on using Diffuse Glow in a very interesting way, while of course she warns and waggles her finger about said Diffuse Glow over-abuse by some members of the SL artistic community.

I can almost feel her finger waggling at me. I plead guilty as charge to massive Diffuse Glow abuse. No need to point at me, it’s no secret I use it pretty much everywhere. But my own humble opinion is, it’s not so much abused than just generally badly used.

Thing is, I always use it in a different way, and very rarely as is. I work it until it gives me what I want, mixing many different techniques, experimenting new things and always trying to incorporate new tricks in my general workflow.

Sure, what follows will be far from being as elaborate as what Vint did. I’m surely not going to do such an awesome presentation and go in deep details. I won’t post screenshots either. But I would like to contribute to the fun with a very tiny mini HOWTO of how I personally work with it, in hope it could be helpful to some people (not Vint, she’s way over those beginner techniques).

Why do I use Diffuse Glow almost everytime?

  1. The primary main reason is that I find the Liquify tool, Heal tool, and the Diffuse Glow filter to be the ideal combo for fixing the nasties, namely nurb lines, distortions and pointy angles. If i’m just looking for a clean sober look, I personally think adding a tiny weenie bit of Diffuse Glow after having cleaned the pic with Liquify and Heal just softens the rougher pixels and gives a sweet look. I sometimes add a tiny bit of Gaussian instead of the glow, if it’s really not indicated. But usually the Diffuse Glow layer has some degree of transparency to adjust it to a more discreet level too.
  2. Combined with many many Photoshop basic tools contained in the Image and Layer menus, especially things like the Levels, Color Balance, Desaturate, Saturation/Colorize, etc…, you can create a plethora of base effects. I almost always do a Level on a layer that will have some Diffuse Glow on it, to control the spread of the glowy surfaces.
  3. And of course those base layers can be combined in different ways with the Layer transparency and effects, like Overlay, Hard Light, etc… Combined and mixed properly, usually with a bit of intuition and a few trial and errors, this pretty much allows an almost infinite range of effects to create from scratch.

The 3 techniques are very mixable, often my PSD files ends up like uber sandwiches of 5 or more layers with different effects and alpha levels. And it’s really fun to try different things and play with the layers until you get the desired effect.

So, apart Liquify if we can call that a filter, Diffuse Glow would be almost the only Photoshop filter I use. I don’t use any third party plugins, and almost always use Photoshop’s most basic image treatment tools.

For the fun of it, I will try and make a short quicklist describing how I usually proceed for a regular post-processed picture. This assuming you followed the usual advice, used antialiasing, and did a decently high resolution shot. Go for 1600 x 1200 and more. I usually shoot 6000 x 4000 but I’m nuts. I use Photoshop CS2.

So, here goes nothing:

  • Open the BMP pic in Photoshop (duh! ;) .
  • Select Background layer in Layers
  • CTRL-J, and CTRL-J (duplicates BG layer, twice)
  • Get rid of the Background layer
  • Select the top layer (Layer 2)
  • Do a Filters / Liquify. Clean the rough angles.
  • Do a Tool / Heal. Plaster the nasty pose distortions.
  • CTRL-J (always keep a layer copy between each step - Layer 3)
  • CTRL-L (Levels, have fun! ^^)
  • CTRL-J (yep. backup! - Layer 4)
  • Filters / Diffuse Glow (play! but try to moderate and put some Clearing in there)
  • Play with this layer’s effects in the Layers window (time to be extreme. Color Dodge, Hard Light…)
  • Often, I will CTRL-J (yes, again. Layer 5)
  • Play with this layer’s effects too (think lighter. Lighting, Overlay, Screen…)
  • Then, hide all but Layer 2, Layer 4 and Layer 5 (or get more if you want, you can stack those babies)
  • Keep the background (Layer 2) with no alpha transparency (again Layers window)
  • Play with the alpha of the 2 overlaying layers. (Alpha will let you balance your effects)

Voila! That’s not very long or complicated, apart the Liquify and Heal part, those can be long to work if your a crazy perfectionist. But for the rest, it’s a matter of minutes sometimes, or a few more if you want to elaborate more complex or special layer combos.

Before applying the Level and Glow, you can Desaturate the picture. Colorize it with Saturation tool. Whatever, go nuts! It’s fun to try different ideas until you get the result. Often the inspiration comes while working it, as I said, trial and error. Each pic is different, the lighting, general color density, often it takes different treatment for different occasions.

To play with lighting, Levels is often the tool of choice to get a range of effects and control how the Diffuse Glow will be applied on the layer. Note that the top layer (Layer 5) is an extra Diffuse Glow, but depending on which Layer effect you combine with the background picture, the glow MAY or MAY NOT look like normal Diffuse Glow, but instead will be integrated in the lightings and highlights in a more discreet way. In my example, of course Layer 5 can be made optional. Just find a good layer effect for Layer 4 in that case.

Okay, enough for now. I hope this pile of nothing will give a little help to someone that’s getting started or is interested of doing do. Enjoy!

*waves to Vint!*

Before vacations I got some news about the Avastar making a poll about which newbie did the biggest impact on SL in 2007. Turns out this poll is going online today.

Well of course, when I see names like Nicholaz Beresford and Ana Lutetia, i’m just honored to be cited beside them.

Anyways, here’s the link: Class of 2007
